My Journey So Far…

Hi guys,

I want to tell you about my journey so far since starting this blog.  I was a real newbie when I started this.  I purchased a course that taught me how to build a website and created this.  At that time I was just trying to learn all I could about this “internet marketing thing” so I could make money online.  I was laid off my job and I knew that I did not want another one.

Ever since I was a young child, about ten perhaps, I knew that I did not want a traditional job.  I wanted my own business.  Through the years, I contemplated franchises and the brick and mortar type of businesses; joined various MLM companies; tried various marketing techniques from Facebook, Twitter, article marketing and spinning, video marketing and blogging.

What I realized is that I don’t like any of these things.  My mom says I failed over the last year and a half.  I say that like Thomas Edison, I did not fail in those businesses or marketing strategies, I learned what did not work for ME.

It seems like it has been a long journey and it definitely has been a rough one.  I learned a while ago that I like freedom that a brick and mortar business will not give me.  I learned that MLM companies don’t fit the model of what I want to do, which is online marketing.  Most of them want you to do the old school way of marketing which includes harassing friends and everyone you know to join or buy and going to endless ra-ra meetings.  The upline in the companies I joined, had no clue on how to market the business online, so I was essentially alone.

I learned a lot of things about myself and again what I wanted for my business.  I learned that I don’t want to be on Facebook ALL day long.  I want to be building my business and earning income.  I spent about $300 on a Facebook course by a successful internet marketer, determined to get my piece of the pie.  I also got courses, some free, from others on marketing on Facebook.  They all said pretty much the same thing.  Well, I applied the concepts for about a week before I realized that that was not the thing for me.  It seems like all people want to do on Facebook is market their own businesses and products.  So there are all these marketers trying to sell their wares and recruit all these other marketers.  It’s crazy to me.  Now don’t get me wrong; there are marketers who do extremely well with Facebook.  I think if you love Facebook and socializing in that way, go for it.

Article writing and spinning had no pay-off for me.  I was spending most of the day researching and writing on a topic, then spinning the article which took a while.  It was damn near a 2-day event!  And after submitting to hundreds of directories, there was no pay-off.

Blogging definitely has it’s place.  However, I didn’t really know what to write about.  As I stated in my mission statement, I am not a guru.  I am like many of you who simply want a successful online business that can give me financial freedom.  I don’t want to spend all day long blogging either.  I have learned that blogging is not a business, therefore, it is not where I should be spending the bulk of my time.  Cool, that works for me.

Video marketing I like.  I’ve got to do more of it when I start my business.  I will have to learn to do screen capture videos and PowerPoint with audio videos.  I will probably do some outsourcing on that as well.

So the question is…

What DO I want to do in business for 8 hours each day?

Well, first, let me say that I lost a boat load of money recently when a MLM company I had joined (I was in it for a couple of months) closed it’s doors.  I am still hoping to get some of my money back from the SEC. (Can you guess which company I’m talking about?)  My lesson in that fiasco is that I can not get something for nothing.  This is the third time something like that has happened to me.  Lesson learned.  I now understand and accept that I will have to put a lot of energy and time into building the kind of business I desire.

I have found some great mentors online recently and I have also determined my online marketing path.  I have decided on a business model that I believe is doable for me.  I have also just joined a coaching program with internet marketer, David Walker.  He has had success making money online for several years.  Now he has decided to coach others on how to build a REAL BUSINESS online, as opposed to just making some money online.  I am only two sessions in so far and I like what I am hearing.  I can not wait ’til the next session.

The purpose of this blog is to share information that will help other marketers, newbies and those that are not so new, build the business of their dreams. Now that I know the direction that I want to go in, I can start applying what I have learned and what I will continue to learn.  I can not wait to share and grow with you.

Hey sergio, this post is kind of a one liner and I’m sorry for that ahead of time. Just wanted to post in and say that with such a supportive community of students enrolled in his coaching, that I whole-heartedly believe that all of us can be success stories!

Looking forward to working with you all in the future.

Yes, I’m hoping that David’s course will set many on the right path…I still think it will be down to us to make it happen after that though. Seems like you have tried a lot of things in a short space of time. I know how draining writing and spinning articles can get. It’s pretty demoralizing when you have spent a whole day and all you have to show for it is two spun articles. I’ve also been disappointed with blogging so far. I’ve put quite a bit of effort into my blog and it still hasn’t got much traction. Let’s see what David has to offer…..

Yes, Adrian, it all can be demoralizing when I work my ass off everyday and have nothing to show for it. Just spinning my wheels. I was telling a fellow marketer that I feel like I am in the wilderness; lost and continually running into dead ends. But I feel that I’m close to reaching the Promised Land. I’ve got a lot of bumps and bruises, but I’m still moving forward. I can’t wait to get into the meat of this coaching course to see what David Walker has to offer!

Well done Melodye for recognising that this is a JOB and you need to dedicate an amount of time to it on a regular basis. A lot of people who come online think the work will do itself! I think you’ve got exactly the right attitude to succeed!

    Enjoy the journey.

First of all there is no such thing as failure as long as you learn from it. The way forward is not to blog although that still gives you a platform. The real money is in building a list of subscribers and building a relationship with them. I would bet my last dollar that David will be covering that at some point.
I am seeing a lot of good forward momentum within the group and I am sure you will one of the success stories.
